How does it work

I made a profile last month, but still havent figured out how this works. Where do I put in money to get coins, etc.?
So many beautiful patterns in here.

Welcome,
I am new too but this is what I have learned so far.

Earn Coins-
You earn coins by doing the hourly task (Click My Center > Tasks >and click on the available task will say Apply (it will be gold when active) As you gain DIY level the amount of GC increases. Also if you have a smart phone I would set a favorite to this page and try to click the task when ever you can. Even when you might not be on the computer.

You also earn coins by replying and posting in the forum. I usually click forum, then on the right side click last replied , I go thru those and comment and join the conversation. I then check out my areas of interest on the main forum page (for me this is cross stitch)
Then I would go check out Groups, and find some that interest you and join in. If you dont see one , you can create your own group.

You also earn coins by sharing your patterns. So make a list of patterns/books/magazines you have, then search for them. If they are not on the site, get busy scanning or taking good pictures of them to upload and share. Some may already be digital and that makes easy work, just upload them. Please make sure to check your pattern before uploading, would you be happy paying coins for the pattern. Sometimes the scan/picture can get blurry and no one wants to spend hard earned coin for a blurry pattern.

You can also visit peoples profile by clicking their picture, sometimes you will find "Red Envelopes" which are free gold coin gifts!

You also are supposed to get a daily login GC of 50, so make sure to logout and back in. If you have not closed your browser.

Credits are what determines the DIY level you are at. These seem to take longer to grow.
There is a formula ( Posts×0.1 + Threads×0.26 + Digests×5 + Online Time (h)/1.5 ) that is how you get credits. I believe digests are something that are awarded by pindiy, I have never received one.

Spending Gold Coin
You can spend GC by purchases, note that the cost is the cost of the download + -30 for the pindiy site.  If a download costs 50GC, it will actually be -80 GC.
You can purchase Red Envelopes for your page to give to others.
You can gift GC to others
You can post a Bounty for a pattern that is not on the site.

Cloe, you must earn coins, some tips: Do the task go to center and then task, every hour= 5 coins, give replays on other works, it doesnt matter where, stitch dairy, crochet, knitting and others things, if you give a replay click on F5 to submit. = 5 coins
Post work if you do chrochet, post it in chrochet dairy, knitting the same for every hobby, make your picture smaller. If you get a replay on your work use the little coffeecup comments left under the work to answer.
I can tell you it takes a very long time you can download a pattern. Every new member want that, but the first rule is earn coins.

Thank you. Yes it is a bit (very) confusing. Im not very good with computer. I just found this page on pinterest and I was courious. Thank you for your help.

Also to keep track and see where your GC are coming from.
Click on Credits (top right side) then click points log, you have two tabs, income points and system rewards.
